WINNIPEG – Full-line furniture resource Palliser will launch a new collection of both case goods and upholstery at the upcoming spring edition of the High Point Market created in collaboration with Canadian designer and television personality Sarah Richardson. It’s the company’s first-ever collaboration with a celebrity designer.

The spring edition of the market kicks off its usual five-day run on 06 April.

Palliser will unveil its first-ever collaboration with a celebrity designer, Sarah Richardson (pictured here), at the upcoming spring edition of the High Point Market. In a statement, the company said the collaboration will combine the accessibility and elegance that make up Richardson’s signature aesthetic with Palliser’s quality and craftsmanship.

Sarah Richardson for Palliser is comprised of four themed collections – each includes dining, bedroom and occasional pieces alongside made-to-order upholstery in a wide selection of fabrics and leathers curated by Richardson. A true turn-key solution, each collection is designed to fit together seamlessly and includes a broad range of decorative rugs, throws and accent pillows that unite to create her signature style in any room.

Annex, a collection designed for the modern family, showcases natural wood tones, ash burl, and vintage-inspired details.

The sophisticated Boulevard gives a nod to art deco with rich walnut and indigo accents that will resonate with the urban dweller.

Shore is quintessentially Richardson – light, bright, and full of feminine elegance, its handwoven rattan, linen-cast resin and brass details evoke coastal living.

For city living, Vista takes a bold approach to luxury with crisp geometric veneer patterning, contemporary hardware, a palette of fog and oyster wood finishes and deep splashes of red and tangerine.

“Palliser will celebrate its 75th anniversary this year and launching Sarah Richardson for Palliser feels like a great way to mark this milestone,” Palliser president and chief executive officer Peter Tielmann said. “Sarah shares our passion for details and quality and working with her was a true partnership. For over a year she collaborated closely with our team leading the design concepts, selecting the materials and textiles and spending time at our manufacturing facilities here in Canada and in Indonesia. We brought her vision to life leveraging our broad range of manufacturing expertise and the high-quality craftsmanship that we’re known for.”

Sarah Richardson for Palliser is the company’s first partnership with an outside designer and signifies a new chapter for family-owned and operated furniture resource.

Tielman said the line showcases Palliser’s diverse capabilities and presents a fresh take on the company’s core strengths, such as motion furniture, leather and wood case pieces. Believed to be Canada’s largest furniture manufacturer, Palliser will continue to design and produce case goods and made-to-order upholstered pieces for its current retail customers.

“I want everyone to live in style and love their home,” Richardson says. “We’ve made it fun and easy to bring designer style to your home at an affordable price point. Partnering with Palliser has allowed me to share my creative vision and signature style in a way that celebrates quality, design and value.”

Sarah Richardson is the host and co-producer of eight HGTV lifestyle series which are seen in over 100 countries. She is also principal of the Toronto-based Sarah Richardson Design and a brand ambassador for Monogram appliances and Marcelle Cosmetics. She is also the author of two bestselling books for Simon & Schuster, Sarah Style and At Home: Sarah Style.

The Sarah Richardson for Palliser collection will be ready for shipping to retailer beginning in September. It will also have its own web presence at sarahrichardson.palliser.com.

Richardson will be present in Palliser’s showroom – located on the top floor of 220 Elm – from 04 to 08 April.

Walmart to carry Bloom

Mattresses, Retail

TORONTO – In another move designed to entrench its position as this country’s largest mattress retailer, Sleep Country Canada Holdings (SCC) has announced its Bloom mattress-in-a-box collection will now be offered on Walmart Canada’s web site.

"This unique partnership brings two retail powerhouses together with an increased focus on providing more Canadians with convenient access to a great night’s sleep,” the publicly-held parent of Sleep Country and Dormez-vous said in a statement announcing the arrangement.

Effective 14 March 2019, Walmart.ca will carry the Bloom mattress-in-a-box line-up.

The Bloom mattress-in-a-box collection now has its own store on Walmart Canada’s web site.“We are very excited to partner with Walmart on this great initiative. We are two very like-minded retailers focused on world class customer service, high quality products and a convenient purchase experience making the partnership a natural fit,” SCC chief business development officer Stewart Schaefer said. “Walmart has enormous reach within Canada with over 23 million visits to their web site every month and over 80% of Canadian households shopping at Walmart. We could not think of a better partner to help bring more Canadians a great night’s sleep with Bloom.”

He also noted that as the Canadian e-commerce industry continues to grow at an unprecedented rate, this partnership positions both retailers well to meet consumer demand. Both retailers are focused on providing consumers with convenient options that match their dynamic shopping habits. The dedicated Bloom storefront on Walmart.ca will help bolster Sleep Country Canada’s aggressive omnichannel offering, bringing together two leaders at the forefront of an ever-changing Canadian retail landscape.

This is the second retail alliance SCC has entered in recent weeks. In mid-February, its newly acquired direct-to-consumer e-commerce division, Endy Mattress, joined up with Urban Barn, the Vancouver-based furniture specialist and began selling its assortment from 37 of its 55 stores across the country.

“We are excited to expand our online offerings by partnering with Canada’s #1 sleep retailer with a dedicated Bloom storefront,” Walmart Canada chief merchandising officer Bertrand Loumaye added. “Sleep Country Canada and Dormez-vous are established Canadian retail leaders and we’re thrilled to provide Walmart.ca customers with a convenient way to take advantage of their high-quality affordable Bloom sleep solutions.”

Walmart.ca/bloom will feature the full Bloom collection of four mattresses in all sizes – Cloud, Air, Mist, and Earth – plus the Ploom pillows. The Bloom toppers and platform box will also be available.

EQ3 adds U.S. stores

Furniture, Retail

WINNIPEG – Contemporary furniture manufacturer and retailer EQ3 will open three stores in the United States this year, beginning with two in Chicago and a third in New York City. This will give the company five free-standing stores in the U.S.

Already open, the first Chicago store is in The Shops at North Bridge in the city’s downtown. It will be followed by a second location in Lincoln Park in later this summer.

The New York retail space will open its doors in Chelsea, also in late summer. These locations join EQ3’s existing portfolio of retail shops in Emeryville and San Francisco, California. Part of the Palliser Group, EQ3 also has 11 freestanding stores in Canada as well as a virtual e-commerce store.

A look inside the new EQ3 store in downtown Chicago, the first to wear the contemporary manufacturer and retailer’s new retail concept.“We are very excited to bring our unique product offering into the Chicago and New York markets,” EQ3 president Mark Letain said in a statement. “As a company that designs and manufactures most of what we sell, we believe in and stand behind our products and are committed to providing customers with the high-quality, modern design that they expect.”

The first iteration of this development, he explained, can be seen in the downtown Chicago store. The new concept infuses a layer of approachability to modern home furnishings with a compelling brick-and-mortar shopping experience. The store’s layout was designed to create a residential feeling and encourage the customer to take a “meaningful meandering” throughout the space.

The ‘shop-ability’ of the store, he continued, can also seen through a secondary layer of storytelling. As a customer walks through the space, they experience this dialogue through displays featuring the unique stories behind the products and their designers and how they can be shaped to suit a customer’s home.

It features a ‘Design Centre’ – a centralised area within the shop – that has been re-imagined to simplify the shopping experience, offer free design consultations, details about the customisable furniture options, from sofas to coffee tables, upholstery swatches, take-away catalogues and seasonal look-books that highlight new products and the stories behind them.

Customers will also have the opportunity to experience EQ3’s high-quality, customisable and made-to-order furniture options, at mid-market prices, alongside its expanding accessory line, featuring rugs, lighting and tabletop and decorative items for the home.

“We want to inspire customers to come across a variety of items they maybe didn’t know they were looking for, solutions they didn’t know they needed, and introduce them to newly released designs in a unique way,” EQ3 creative director Thom Fougere said. “Our goal was to add clarity and ease, empowering customers to make design decisions personalised to them.”

The breadth of EQ3’s collection will be featured within Chicago’s Lincoln Park location, showcasing larger deep-seated sectionals, dining tables, credenzas and more. Product lines featured in New York will introduce smaller sofas and modular furniture, including expandable tables, storage and accessories.

“With each showroom, EQ3 will build upon and continue to evolve its retail experience and concept, adapting to the ever-changing market,” Letain said. “Being at the forefront of retail trends, EQ3 understands what customers resonate with and will continue to build upon this concept in its showrooms.

EQ3’s downtown Chicago store is located at 51 E Ohio St. Hours of operation are from 10am to 8pm Monday to Friday; 10am to 6pm on Saturday; and, 11am to 6pm on Sunday.

Last summer, EQ3 entered into a partnership with bed-in-a-box giant Casper, whose product is featured on its web site. It has carried product from companies such as Herman Miller, Marimekko and Vitra.
