WMS registration opens
MISSISSAUGA, Ontario – Registration has opened for those wishing to attend the Woodworking Machinery & Supply Expo (WMS), this country’s only national wood manufacturing trade event and conference which will be held at the International Centre here from November 2 to 4.
However, the organisers advised registration for the conference portion of the event will open in a few weeks’ time.
Held every two years, WMS is Canada’s largest exhibition of woodworking technology and supplies and organisers expect the 2017 event to draw thousands of wood industry business owners, executives and operators – from across the breadth of the wood manufacturing sector – to view some 250 exhibiting companies.
Owned by CCI Media, WMS has build long-term partnerships with several leading wood industry organizations in Canada, including the Centre for Advanced Wood Processing (CAWP) at the University of British Columbia as well as the Canadian Kitchen Cabinet Association (CKCA), the Architectural Woodwork Manufacturers of Canada and the Bluewater Wood Alliance, a business cluster serving furniture makers and other wood product specialists in south-western Ontario.
CAWP is Canada’s national centre for education, training and technical assistance for the wood products manufacturing industry and was instrumental in assembling an educational steering committee for WMS. The centre offers a wide range of training courses, professional e-learning programs, in-plant training, product development and manufacturing improvement services. It also conducts and co-ordinates applied research and development.
The CKCA relaunched its certification program last month and its executive director, Dawn Wilson, will provide an update on the changes to the new program during WMS.
Organisers currently have preliminary plans for two days of conference programs with tracks covering finishing, business management, panel and hardware trends as well as best practices for both small and large shop operations. These will be held on November 2 and 3. A show floor tour of significant products is also being developed.
WMS 2017 attendees will also have the opportunity to participate in a tour of the highly automated ProPly Custom Plywood Inc. in nearby Brampton, Ontario on the afternoon of November 2.
