Two Canadian designers among this year's Pinnacle Award finalists
NEW LONDON, North Carolina (05 July 2011) - Two Canadian furniture designers are among the finalists in the 2011 edition of the Pinnacle Design Achievement Awards, organized by the American Society of Furniture Designers (ASFD).
Normand Couture, creative director and founder of the Montreal-based Couture International, is a finalist in two categories: in stationary upholstery for the Evasion sectional; and in the outdoor casual category for the Embrace sectional.
Couture is no stranger to this competition having won the 2010 Pinnacle in both the motion upholstery category for the Welcome sofa and the leather upholstery category for the Ensemble bed. He also won the award in 2007.
Paul Zaidman of the Winnipeg-based PAZ Design is also a 2011 finalist in the motion upholstery category for the Comfort recliner he designed in collaboration with Tom Garland for American Leather.
"The judges were impressed by the quantity and quality of entries for this year's competition and they did an outstanding job in the process," Steve Hodges, chairman of ASFD's Pinnacle committee, said in a statement. "We appreciate and thank them for their participation."
The 2011 jury members are selected from across the U.S. furniture industry and include retailers, designers, association executives and journalists.
"The annual Pinnacle Awards provide us the opportunity of recognizing the work of talented designers, and are a great way for our industry to honor companies which support and encourage originality of thought and design innovation," ASFD president Dudley Moore, Jr., of Otto & Moore, Inc. in High Point, added.
Furniture/Today serves as the major underwriter of the Pinnacle Awards.
The finalists will be presented and the winners announced during the upcoming fall edition of the High Point Market. The event will be held on October 24 at the International Home Furnishings Center.
