TSC to sponsor Canadian women’s and para hockey teams
HALIFAX, Nova Scotia – When Canada’s National Women’s Hockey Team takes to the ice for the world championships here next month, its members will have spent the previous night sleeping on a mattress from Tempur Sealy Canada (TSC) under a sponsorship agreement signed with Hockey Canada. The support deal also includes Canada’s National Men’s Para Hockey Team.
After being cancelled last year because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2021 IIHF (International Ice Hockey Federation) Women’s World Championship tournament will begin on May 6 when Team Canada plays its first game against Finland.
This is the company’s – the Canadian branch of the Lexington, Kentucky-based Tempur Sealy International – second foray into sponsorship of a major Canadian sports team. Earlier this year, it entered into a partnership with the Toronto Raptors of the National Basketball Association (NBA).
In a statement, TSC said it remains passionate about creating products that deliver a great night’s sleep while giving back to the community. To help ensure members of both the women’s and men’s para team are able to compete at the highest level by getting a good night’s sleep, TSC will be outfitting each athlete with a new mattress.
“We are proud to be a part of this amazing journey with these incredible athletes. Sleep is vitally important for everyone’s health and wellbeing. Our hope is to bring the players one step closer to achieving their goals by providing them with quality sleep,” TSC chief operating officer Monty Bagga said.
Members of the Canadian women’s team will be supported on a Sealy Posturepedic mattress.
The company has created two limited-edition Hockey Canada branded mattresses, designed to reflect Team Canada’s jersey.
The Home mattress will be sold exclusively at Leon’s – one of the two full-line furniture retail banners operated by the Toronto-based Leon’s Furniture Limited (LFL) – with a portion of its sales being donated to the Hockey Canada Foundation’s Hockey is Her initiative that encourages young girls and women to take up the sport. Meanwhile, the Away mattress will be sold by other selected retailers.
Meanwhile, the members of Canada’s National Men’s Para Hockey team will receive a Tempur-Pedic mattress to aid in their performance on and off the ice. The company noted Tempur-Pedic develops products that, thanks to their proprietary material, are hyper-sensitive to temperature and designed to help users rejuvenate by attaining head-clearing, body-repairing sleep.
“The on and off-ice training of our athletes is intense and gruelling, which makes their rest and recovery increasingly more important in order for them to perform at the highest level. We understand the needs of our high-performance athletes, and a partnership with Tempur Sealy is a perfect fit,” said Dana Gladstone, Hockey Canada vice-president of partnership strategy and licensing.
“We are proud to welcome Tempur Sealy to our family of corporate partners and appreciate its efforts to connect a good night’s sleep and peak performance for our athletes.”
