SureFit acquires PAB
ALBURTIS, Pennsylvania – Home textile manufacturer SureFit Home Décor has acquired sleep accessory specialist Protect-A-Bed. The details of the transaction were not disclosed.
Based here, SureFit markets an assortment of home textiles, such as slip covers, fabric covers and protectors, shower curtains and bath accessories, window drapes, decorative pillows, outdoor products, pet beds and accessories for both the residential and hospitality segments. It is owned by Centre Lane Partners, a New York City based investment firm.
In a statement, SureFit said the acquisition of Protect-A-Bed (PAB) will allow it to expand into new retail channels and offer new products to existing customers. It will also introduce the company’s myriad existing collections to a new sector of consumers, further expanding SureFit’s global reach and market share.
“The Protect-A-Bed brand represents a significant addition to the current portfolio of home textiles products offered in our consumer and hospitality divisions. James’s team has built a tremendous brand and bring a strong passion and expertise in innovation and education to the mattress protection category, and we are very happy to have them on board,” SureFit Home Décor chief executive officer Jeffrey Werner said.
Protect-A-Bed will remain headquartered in Wheeling, Illinois and continue normal operations.
“SureFit Home Décor is an ideal fit for the Protect-A-Bed brand,” PAB chief executive James Bell said. “The company’s focus on strong industry relationships and reputation for excellent customer service will allow us to offer Protect-A-Bed products to many more consumers. SureFit is a leading player in home textiles with some of the strongest brands in the industry. The Protect-A-Bed team looks forward to working with Jeff and his team in their mission to take the company to an exciting new level.”
In an e-mail to Home Goods Online, SureFit senior vice president of marketing and new product development Michael Silverman said there will be no changes to PAB’s Canadian operations – which are led by Marc De Grave – in the short term. “We will enhance Canadian operations in the future as we see the Canadian market as a key area for expansion and focus,” he added.
Most of PAB’s current senior management team are expected to stay on as well, although several sources have reported that James Bell is expected to leave the company by the end of the year to lead a new organisation that will market the REM-Fit sleep system.
In early 2010, the Caber Distributors – then also PAB’s Canadian arm – acquired SureFit Home Furnishings, which produced slip covers for Sears Canada and a number of other retailers across the country. The company’s name was then changed to Caber SureFit.
SureFit Home Décor acquired Caber last year. SureFit Home Décor Canada remains headquartered in Richmond Hill, Ontario.
