Sunpan: a Great Place to Work
TORONTO – Contemporary furniture resource Sunpan has been certified a Great Place to Work after an independent analysis conducted by Great Place to Work Institute Canada.
“Creating a workplace where employees genuinely want to come to work every day has always been a top priority for our company since its inception,” Sunpan president and chief executive officer Sundeep Bagga said in a statement. “Receiving this prestigious recognition is an incredible milestone for our company and is a testament to the impact of various initiatives our company has, and continues to, put into place for our valued employees.”
The certification is based on direct feedback from Sunpan employees, provided as part of an extensive and anonymous survey about their workplace experience conducted by the private research firm, which is also based here. To receive this certification, the company needed to have a survey score that is 65% positive or more.
Sunpan’s score was 87%. Among the perks cited in support of the certification was receiving a paid day off for birthdays, an employee discount on company product of 25% and a 100% match to employees’ regular contributions to their group RRSP (registered retirement savings plan), to a maximum of 4% of employees' earnings.
Bagga noted maintaining a work environment focusing on the satisfaction of employees through actionable plans has been paramount in Sunpan’s success.
Nancy Fonseca, senior vice president of Great Place to Work Canada, says a great workplace is about the level of trust employees experience in their leaders, the level of pride they have in their jobs, and the extent to which they enjoy their colleagues.
“Our data shows that great workplaces benefit from stronger financial performance, reduced turnover, and better customer satisfaction than their peers,” said Fonseca. “Work environments with trust at the foundation are ripe for innovation, agility, resilience and efficiency.”
The institute also publishes an annual ranking of Great Places to Work in Canada. Separate from the certification program, the ranking – which is supported by the Globe & Mail – lists the companies receiving the highest scores in its annual survey of more than 500,000 employees about conditions in the companies where they work.
In the rankings for 2022, the Toronto-based digital mattress retailer Endy – a subsidiary of Sleep Country Canada Holdings – was ranked at 39 among those Canadian companies employing between 50 and 100. For the second consecutive year, it was named one of the Best Workplaces for Women in the country.
Whirlpool Canada was ranked number 25 in the over-1,000 employee category in this year’s Best Places to Work list. It was also cited in the Best Workplaces for Women list.
