Samsung named Energy Star manufacturer of the year
MISSISSAUGA, Ontario – Samsung Electronics Canada has been named both Appliance Manufacturer of the Year and Consumer Electronics Manufacturer of the Year for 2017 by Energy Star Canada.
In a statement, the company said these designations will serve to highlight the tangible, real-world impact and benefits their product assortment can provide to Canadian consumers while demonstrating their dedication to energy-efficient product innovation.
These awards mark the fifth and sixth Energy Star wins for Samsung Canada since 2012.
“We are honoured to receive this recognition from our partners at Energy Star Canada. These accolades are the result of a Samsung commitment to innovation and to making a difference within the communities we live, work and play,” noted Mark Childs, Samsung Canada’s chief brand officer.
“Energy Star Canada exemplifies our government’s commitment to improved energy efficiency as we transition to a low-carbon, clean-growth economy. On behalf of Canadians, I am proud to recognise Samsung Canada for their efforts to increase the number of energy-efficient products in the market, and for making it easier for consumers to save money and reduce energy use. All of today's award winners can be proud of their outstanding innovations in energy efficiency,” said Jim Carr, the federal minister of natural resources.
Key factors in Samsung Canada’s Energy Star Award wins were the brand’s recent 2016 partnership with BC Hydro to promote and increase awareness of Energy Star certified clothes washers, clothes dryers, refrigerators and televisions. Market coverage included displays, print, radio, on-line and mobile displays, paid search and sponsored social to generate over 80 million impressions.
Additionally, 99% of all televisions sold last year by Samsung were Energy Star certified, driving increased market penetration of certified appliances by over 30% from 2015 to 2016.
Samsung Canada Energy Star wins to date now include: Manufacturer of the Year – Appliances (2017); Manufacturer of the Year – Electronics (2015, 2016, 2017); Promoter of the Year (2015, 2016); and, Collaborative Initiative of the Year (2012).
For the seventh time since the program was launched in 2003, Home Depot Canada was named Energy Star National Retailer of the Year for 2017. The 182-unit home improvement retailer –which is also one of the fastest growing major appliance merchants in the country – was cited for its continued sustainability efforts and for its continuing promotion of both the Energy Star program and the Energy Star certified products it carries.
The Energy Star name and symbol are administered and promoted in Canada by Natural Resources Canada.
