Palliser, Couture named finalists in 2010 Pinnacle design competition

NEW LONDON, North Carolina (19 July 2010) - New products from Couture International and Palliser Furniture have been named finalists in the 2010 edition of the Pinnacle Awards, the design competition organized by the American Society of Furniture Designers (ASFD).

Based in here and founded in 1981, the ASFD is dedicated to excellence, innovation, education and originality in the practice of furniture design.

The Pinnacle Awards were launched in April 1995 to promote design quality and encourage the recognition of furniture designers within the retail home furnishings industry.

The Winnipeg-based Palliser Furniture has been selected as a finalist in the motion upholstery category for Theo, a new motion group designed for them by Jack Lewis and Gary VanderWood.

Normand Couture, president of the Montreal-based Couture International, has been named a finalist in three separate categories: in motion upholstery for the Welcome sofa; in leather upholstery for the Ensemble bed; and, in the summer/casual furniture for Wow.

Couture has won the Pinnacle twice: in 2008 for Jazz, which was entered in the motion category and in 2007 for Mood, in leather upholstery.

This is the first time Palliser has been named a finalist.

In total, the awards program encompasses some 16 categories including occasional tables; occasional storage; juvenile furniture; casual dining; formal dining; motion upholstery; stationary upholstery; leather upholstery; accessories; lighting; home office; entertainment centers; summer/casual; bedroom; major collections; and, the Green Leaf Award, given for sustainable design and construction practices.

The awards will be presented at the upcoming fall edition of the High Point Market. The banquet and presentation will be held on 18 October at the International Home Furnishing Center's ballroom.
