Leon’s looking to give Raptor fans a ‘couchside’ seat
TORONTO – Leon’s has become the official furniture and mattress retailer to the Toronto Raptors, who won their first ever championship in the National Basketball Association (NBA) earlier this year. The partnership took effect with the start of this year’s NBA season.
In a statement, the retailer said that as part of its new partnership, Leon’s will bring the excitement of the game to life from the thrill of courtside to the comfort of their homes. This engagement will begin with the 2019-20 season and will feature a unique video series, special courtside promotions, and strong advertising support. In the special video series, which will launch later this year, fans will get an up close and personal perspective on the last 25 years of the Toronto Raptors franchise.
“We are thrilled to partner with the Toronto Raptors,” said Mike Walsh, divisional president of the Leon’s banner. “Leon’s and the Raptors are two iconic Canadian brands. We felt there was no better partnership as most Canadians enjoy the thrilling excitement of the Raptors from their very own homes. Now Leon’s can be a part of that and work to bring courtside – couchside.”
Leon’s is one of two furniture retail banners operated by the publicly-held Leon’s Furniture Limited (LFL).
“We look forward to introducing this new partnership to our passionate fans, who like Leon’s, are proud to be Canadian,” added Jordan Vader, vice president of global partnerships at MLSE, the owners of the NBA franchise. “Leon's will also help us share an exciting season ahead where we are celebrating the past and future of the Toronto Raptors.”
This is Leon’s first foray as a sponsor of a professional sporting franchise. The company also does some local sponsorship of Ontario Hockey League (OHL) team such as the Sarnia Sting and it’s also the headline sponsor of the Leon’s Center in Kingston, Ontario which hosts sporting events, concerts and other activities.
