LFL to build new DC and corporate office for The Brick
EDMONTON – Leon’s Furniture Limited (LFL) will develop a new distribution centre and corporate office The Brick, the high impact promoter it acquired in 2013. The new facility is slated to open in 2024.
In a statement, LFL said the new 500,000 square foot facility will replace the existing 365,000 square foot facility here and, when completely, will expand the publicly held merchant’s retail and distribution footprint to approximately 14 million square feet of owned and leased real estate across the country.
The new facility, which will be built on 28 acres of purchased land in the northwest quadrant of Edmonton, is a 50/50 joint venture with Qualico Properties. The distribution centre – the second largest in the LFL portfolio after its 870,000 square foot Mississauga, Ontario facility – will provide fulfillment services for all of The Brick’s retail and commercial banners, both online and brick-and-mortar.
At full capacity, the new facility will house approximately $50 million dollars in inventory with the potential to add an additional 100,000 square feet of warehousing space in the future.
“We are constantly evaluating strategies that will improve efficiencies and customer service,” LFL Group president and chief executive officer Mike Walsh said in a statement. “In addition to expanded inventory capacity, the new distribution centre will feature state-of-the art equipment allowing for quicker order fulfillment to the Brick stores across Alberta and Saskatchewan.”
The Brick is one of two divisions operated by LFL Group, the other being Leon’s Furniture. Led by long-time president Dave Freeman and headquartered here, the division also includes The Brick Mattress Store and Brick Outlet. It operates a total of 232 stores across the country, including 67 franchises.
