HomeSense opens stores in Calgary and Guelph
MISSISSAUGA, Ontario – Home furnishings specialist HomeSense opened new stores in Calgary and Guelph late last month, bringing its national store count to 125.
HomeSense is part of TJX Canada, the Canadian subsidiary of TJX Companies. It also operates two other retail chains in this country, Winners and Marshalls. HomeSense specialises in accessories, furnishings and furniture, usually in the promotional to mass market price points.
The new Calgary location – the sixth in Alberta’s largest city – is located at 3915 51 Street SW and covers over 34,000 square feet of selling space. To mark the occasion, the retailer donated $5,000 to the Women in Need Society as part of its Find Your Stride initiative.
“At TJX Canada, we are dedicated to helping vulnerable women achieve economic independence so that they and their families can thrive in live,” company spokesman Erin O’Brien said in a statement. “Supporting women and their families in the neighbourhoods where our stores are located is integral to our business and helps foster a sense of community for both our associates and customers alike.”
The Guelph store, the second in that southwestern Ontario community, is in the Stone Road Mall and covers 24,000 square feet of retail space.
For that occasion, HomeSense donated $5,000 to Guelph-Wellington Women in Crisis.
The company also noted its stores adhere to all established health protocols, including new cleaning regimens, requiring the use of face coverings and encouraging social distancing within the stores.
HomeSense is believed to be the largest home furnishings retailer in Canada with annual sales for 2018 estimated to be in the $1.2 billion range, giving them a 17% market share in that category.
