Happy Holidays from HGO!

 13 December 2021     Michael J. Knell

BRIGHTON, Ontario – It’s hard to believe 2021 is coming to a close. While scientists maintain time moves a steady, constant rate it still feels, to me anyway, the year has flown by at breakneck speeds. For most of us, this has been something of an odd year. The pandemic remains very much with us and continues to profoundly influence the shape this country’s furniture, mattress and appliance business.

That’s not likely to change as the New Year dawns in some 17 days time. But until then, all of us have the opportunity to take a step back, rejoice in family and friends and count the many blessings we have received particularly over the past twelve months.

A Merry Christmas from all of us here at HGO, including Wilbur the Wildebeest, the office supervisor.Everyone here at Home Goods Online would like to wish all our friends, colleagues, readers and sponsors wherever you are in the country and whatever your faith, a truly Merry Christmas and a Joyful, Peaceful and Prosperous New Year.

HGO and its parent company, Windsor Bay Communications Inc., will be close for the Holiday Season at 12noon Eastern time on Thursday, 23 December 2021 and re-open at 9am on Tuesday, 04 January 2022.

I will continue to monitor my incoming e-mail, so don’t be afraid to reach out to me at [email protected] or [email protected] as the news doesn’t go on holiday. We will post breaking news stories on the home page as they happen during the break. I will continue to post important news on my Linked In feed.

Over the next few days, HGO will also post the second episode in our new series One-on-One, a series of conversations with interesting people from across Canada’s furniture, mattress and major appliance sector. This chat is with Eddie Leon, who recently retired as chief executive officer of Leon’s Furniture Limited, the largest full-line furniture retailer in Canada and one of the largest in North America.

Also coming up is the next episode of Business Cents. You’ll want to see this as Albert Marrache and I talk about what retailers need to be doing right now to get ready for the inevitable downturn our industry faces when the pandemic finally comes to an end.

The Winter issue of the HGO Merchandiser is also expected to appear in your inbox before the end of the year.

The next issue of the newsletter will be broadcast on Tuesday, 11 January 2022. Take care. Be well, follow the guidelines laid down by your local medical officer of health and have a Merry Christmas and a Joyous, Peaceful and Prosperous New Year!
