Furniture.ca virtual storefront goes live on Walmart marketplace

 26 November 2021     HGO Staff

TORONTO – Walmart Canada’s Marketplace appears to be broadening its presence in this country’s home goods market after adding a new virtual storefront for Furniture.ca, the e-commerce division of Leon’s Furniture Limited (LFL), parent to both Leon’s and The Brick.

That particular marketplace also hosts a virtual store for Sleep Country Canada, having partnered with the sleep specialist in early 2019 to sell its Bloom bed-in-a-box brand.

In a statement, LFL said Canadian consumers visiting Walmart.ca will be able to shop a range of brands and categories from many Furniture.ca suppliers. Currently, Furniture.ca is offering more than 2,000 furniture and home décor items on Walmart.ca and plans to strategically expand the selection and categories available in the coming months.

Walmart Canada’s Marketplace has added a virtual store for Furniture.ca, the e-commerce arm of Leon’s Furniture Limited.“We are very pleased to announce participation on Walmart Canada’s Marketplace, which is one of the best recognized and most innovative retailers in Canada,” LFL president and chief executive officer Mike Walsh said in a statement. “This is a mutually beneficial arrangement that will bring Walmart Marketplace customers a wider selection of products they don’t currently have direct access to, while building awareness of the Furniture.ca brand and driving incremental revenue for LFL.

“Participation on Walmart’s Marketplace represents another important example of LFL’s commitment to continuously innovate the way it goes to market, to ensure that regardless of how, where or when Canadian consumers choose to shop, they will encounter a seamless, best-in-class sales and service experience,” he continued, adding, “With a truly national distribution platform, featuring a network of efficient distribution centers and one of the largest last mile fulfillment services in Canada, LFL is uniquely positioned to execute on partnerships like this one.”

Dan Farmer, Walmart Canada’s vice president in charge of the marketplace, noted the site receives 1.5 million customer visits every day. “The addition of LFL’s Furniture.ca division to Marketplace expands the assortment of furniture and home décor available to our online customers, joining more than 35 million items already available online,” he said.

The publicly held Leon’s Furniture Limited established Furniture.ca in 2017 and says it has experienced year-over-year growth ever since. It is one of four retail sites the company operates, the others being leons.ca, thebrick.com and appliancecanada.ca. For the third quarter of 2021, e-commerce accounted for roughly 20% of company revenue, up from about 16% for the same period last year.
