Braniff elected CHFA chairman
MISSISSAUGA, Ontario – Retail veteran Steve Braniff has been elected to a two-year term as chairman of Canadian Home Furnishings Alliance’s board of directors (CHFA). He succeeds Mark Wiltshire, who gave up the post after leaving Palliser Furniture.
Braniff currently serves as senior director of the Dufresne Retail Solutions Group (DRSG), the buying group operated by The Dufresne Group (TDG) of Winnipeg, which also owns the 11-unit Dufresne Furniture & Appliances as well as a network of Ashley HomeStores across the country.
In a statement announcing his election, the CHFA noted Braniff has been part of the industry since 1979, when he managed the The Bay’s home furnishings department in Flin Flon, Manitoba. Five years later, he joined DeFehr Furniture before joining Stacy’s Furniture in British Columbia a few years later.
In 1990, Braniff because furniture merchandising manager for VIP Stores, which merged with Ameublements B.V. a decade later to become Mega Group. He also held senior management positions at Cantrex.
He was recruited by TDG chief executive officer Mark Dufresne in 2005 to create and lead DRSG, which currently has some 100 members operating 135 storefronts across the country. DRSG was named as the CHFA’s Retailer of the Year in 2012.
The association also announced the 2020 edition of the Toronto Winter Furniture Show will be held from 26 to 30 January, at the same time as the winter edition of the Toronto Gift + Home Market, which will be housed at the Toronto Congress Centre.
