Best Buy named top B.C. employer

 6 February 2011

BURNABY, British Columbia (07 February 2011) - Consumer electronics specialist Best Buy Canada has been named one of the top employers in British Columbia, ranking eighth in a survey published last week by the Vancouver Sun on behalf of the Canada's Top 100 Employers organization.

This special designation recognizes employers in this country's westernmost province who lead their industries in offering exceptional places to work. In a statement, Best Buy Canada said it provides employees with a progressive work culture and industry-leading benefits, including tuition reimbursements, maternity leave top-up, 100% employer match of employee RRSP contributions and flex days.

Employers were evaluated by the editors of Canada's Top 100 using eight criteria, including: physical workplace; work atmosphere & social; health, financial & family benefits; vacation & time off; employee communications; performance management; training & skills development; and, community involvement.

Employers were compared to other organizations in their field to determine which offers the most progressive and forward-thinking programs.

Best Buy stores in Canada are a division of Best Buy Canada Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of the publicly-owned U.S. retailer Best Buy Co., based in Minneapolis. The company operates more than 70 stores in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec and Nova Scotia.
