Palliser signs multi-year WMC lease PDF Print E-mail
Written by HGO Staff

WINNIPEG, Manitoba (15 June 2012) - Canadian upholstery powerhouse Palliser Furniture has signed a multi-year lease on a showroom in the World Market Center, home to the semi-annual Las Vegas Market. The showroom will be located in the Modern Trends area of Building B (suite B-770).

The privately-held custom upholstery and motion house showed at LVM for the first time this past January, which Cary Benson, Palliser's president of sales and marketing, described in a statement as "successful."

"We saw over 500 retailers during the past market in January," he said, adding, "Many had not shopped our line in the past five years."

At the winter event, Palliser showed some 50 or so of its best-selling groups from its assortment in stationary, motion, recliners and home theatre. The company was targeting retailers in the Western U.S. and Western Canada who do not necessarily attend the semi-annual market in High Point, where Palliser has a major presence.

"The depth and breadth of the Palliser line with its infinite ability to configure the combination of product and cover is a business model that fits perfectly with the small to medium-size retailer in western states," Benson said. "We know that many of these retailers attend the Vegas market and this creates the opportunity for them to view the Palliser line and for us to showcase the product and all of its possibilities."

Art DeFehr, chief executive officer, said participating in LVM should prove to be an excellent complement to Palliser's show strategy.

"As a North American producer of custom furniture we can now reach both our large and smaller retail partners through a strategy that reflects the geography and international character of the company," he said. "Palliser now displays in High Point and Vegas in addition to the Toronto plus a private annual Winnipeg show for its Canadian customers and a private show in Mexico."

LVM has lost a good number of Canadian exhibitors in the past couple years but still has a strong cadre of support from furniture resources in this country including names such as bedroom and occasional furniture producer South Shore, ready-to-assemble specialists Sonax and Pre-pac as well as contemporary upholstery house Stylus.

The summer 2012 edition of the Las Vegas market will start its five-day run on July 30.

Huppé: On top being notorious

FROM THE HGO MERCHANDISER

Like many furniture companies, Huppé has been around for a long time - since 1967, to be exact. Like many of its counterparts and competitors, it started as a small family-run operation. It was founded by Raymond Hamel and his brothers Aurèle and Sylvio and initially specialised in cedar chests. As the years went on, the company outgrew Aurèle's basement and a barn before acquiring a bigger facility, more product offerings and country-wide distribution.
