CEMC publishes CE trend report PDF Print E-mail

TORONTO (24 May 2012) - Electronics consumers want to have their ‘media' experience beoth in and out of the home, according to the 2012 edition of the Consumer Electronics Market Trends & Forecast, which is now being offered for sale by the Consumer Electronics Marketers of Canada (CEMC).

A council of Electro-Federation Canada (EFC) council, CEMC prepared the report in collaboration with the Canadian Imaging Trade Association (CITA).

In a statement, CEMC said this industry-wide report is regarded as the benchmark for industry business planning, providing an overview of past, current and future trends facing the Canadian consumer electronics market. The 2012 report is a snapshot of an industry about to significantly revitalize the way Canadians are served by the consumer technologies that enable many aspects of their daily lives.

Televisions, Bluetooth devices, cameras and camcorders are about to be as connected as computers, poised to provide new conduits for consumer brands to provide services. These trends, as well as a snapshot of industry vertical-specific economic performance, and an exploration of digital-enabled entertainment broadcast services across Canada, are all detailed in the report.

Data is collected from CEMC's and CITA's statistical programs, which gather, analyze, and report data on leading consumer electronics categories.

"Consumers will be able to enjoy TV viewing on bigger screens than they ever have been able to, have a more interactive viewing experience and also be able to experience their content on multiple devices wherever they are - very befitting of the 21st century," Abraham Cherian, associate vice president of consumer electronics for Sharp Canada (a CEMC member) said in a statement.

"Like never before, the Canadian consumer electronics industry is in a challenging environment faced with competitive pressures within a changing global economy and with the emergence of new product categories," CEMC vice president Susan Winter added. "Consumers are seeking an improved experience evident with new technologies and the ability to connect from wherever they are through the devices and services that enrich their lives at home and on the road."
