ImageHome Goods Online has launched its new Twitter feed - @HomeGoodsWriter - just in time for the 2011 edition of the Canadian Home Furnishings Market. Joining what may be the world's fastest growing social media network will help us get the word out faster - you'll get your need to know, just in time.

During market next month, both Alixe MacRae and I - with, hopefully, one or two others (I'll let you know when they're on the team)- will be Tweeting about all of the new, exciting and innovative company news, merchandising ideas and new products we find as we're touring the halls of the International Centre as well as the outside showrooms.

I'll also be ‘tweeting' to alert the industry when breaking news stories are posted to the home page as well as while I'm attending both the winter Las Vegas Market and the spring High Point Market.

Although I freely admit this is my first foray on Twitter, it's become increasingly evident social media is becoming an integral part of the world as we know it - influencing everything from what movies we watch to what sofa, refrigerator or television we buy for the living room. In her profile of social media expert Amber MacArthur in the 2011 TCHFM Show Magazine, writer Shauna Hardy notes the potential market that can be accessed by networks such as Twitter is growing every day.

"There are over 160 million users on Twitter and Canada is one of the top Facebook countries in the world, with half the population owning an account," she writes. "They are authoritative marketing tools that cannot be underestimated."

But this won't be a one-way conversation. It's an opportunity for HGO readers to share their ideas, insights, comments and suggestions - whether it's a hearty ‘at-a-boy' to Alixe for another well-written insightful piece on the intricacies of  retailing or to share a interesting development in their own business.
