June furniture, electronics sales up for Statistics Canada's group of large retailers
OTTAWA (23 August 2010) - Sales of furniture and electronics for Statistics Canada's group of large of retailers were up in June over the prior month, although sales of both appliances and home furnishings fell. However, all four categories continued to post year-over-year gains - for the third consecutive month.

Fort Frances retailer Howarth's set to become latest Leon's franchise

FORT FRANCES, Ontario (23 August 2010) - Howarth's Home Centre, a furniture, appliance and electronics retailer here, has announced it will become a Leon's Furniture franchise. The conversion is expected to be completed in a few weeks time, according to a report published in the Fort Frances Times.

Sears Canada Q2 sales drop 3%

TORONTO (18 August 2010) - Job fears and sagging consumer confidence continued to plague sales and earnings for Sears Canada, which has reported that both fell during the second quarter of its current fiscal year. Same store sales decreased 2.4%.

Noah Tepperman, vice president of Tepperman’s in Windsor, Ontario, is seen here serving customers at the drive-through window at a local McDonald’s fast food outlet recently. He was taking part in a fundraising drive to benefit Transition to Betterness, a local group that focuses on improving patients’ surrounding in local hospitals. The event raised about $26,000. The four-unit, family owned and operated full-line furniture retailer supports a number of community initiatives each year as well as the Canadian Scholarship Trust Fund and the United Way.
