| Sharp receives environmental excellence award |

WASHINGTON - Sharp Electronics has received the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) SmartWay Excellence Award for the third consecutive year, in recognition of the company's leadership in conserving energy and lowering greenhouse gas emissions from its transportation and freight activities.
Sharp is named a winner in the "Shipper" category for its commitment to environmental friendly practices and business operations. Sharp is the only organization in the category to win the award three years in a row. The company was one of 27 of the more than 1,000 SmartWay Transport Partnership's member corporations to receive the honour in 2008. Through initiatives such as shipping 97 per cent of its goods with SmartWay carriers, adopting no-idling policies, and increasing intra-modal shipping, Sharp has reduced its transportation environmental footprint. As of 2008, 90 per cent of the carriers that Sharp works with are members of the SmartWay Transportation Partnership. |
